David Baron, Esq.
Greenberg Traurig

David Baron is a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig's Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the firm's Global Trade & Investment Practice Group, where his practice focuses on international dispute resolution and public international law issues. He frequently represents foreign sovereigns and state-owned entities in international litigation and arbitration proceedings.   He also provides trade policy, transaction and regulatory advice to clients on all aspects of U.S. multilateral trade policies and developments.

David's international dispute resolution experience includes involvement in multiple cases before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), international and U.S. arbitral tribunals, as well as international issues before federal district and appellate courts. He has been involved in a number of international maritime boundary disputes and law of the sea issues, including work towards the delimitation of the Caspian Sea.

David counsels both foreign and U.S. business clients regarding all aspects of international trade regulations, including economic sanctions policies and the Patriot Act, trade policy matters, customs, foreign corrupt practices and antidumping, as well as other U.S. investigations such as 301 proceedings. He has represented clients and client concerns before the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), International Trade Commission (ITC), International Trade Administration (ITA), Department of Justice and the USDA.

David also advises clients on the proceedings of international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union and the World Trade Organization. He also has significant experience with GATT, WTO, and NAFTA matters and was particularly involved in advising clients on the WTO dispute settlement proceedings concerning bananas.

David was the principal drafter of the complaint in Doe, et al. v. Milosevic, et al., a civil suit on behalf of Kosovar-Albanian refugees for genocide and other human rights violations. He has also consulted on and rendered advice concerning various proceedings on behalf of victims of the Holocaust and worked extensively with the Iraqi Kurds and the pro-democracy movement in Burma.

David is an adjunct professor of international law at American University's Washington College of Law where he teaches advanced seminars in international law and international dispute resolution.
