The International Law Students Association will be hosting a conference in Istanbul, Turkey on July 7-10, 2010 in cooperation with the International Law Society at Bahcesehir University. The conference theme is “Discussing Global Issues within the Framework of the United Nations.” The Conference will examine the expanding role and influence of the United Nations in international affairs by exploring five sub-topics: the Role of the Security Council in the 21st century, UN peacekeeping (preventing conflict and humanitarian intervention), UN human rights institutions and instruments, and the proliferation of courts within the UN system.

The ILSA International Conference - Turkey will hold three sub-events:

  • Keynote Seminars. Distinguished international law experts will lecture on law and international relations, followed by question-and-answer discussions with the audience.
  • Panels. Students may submit papers for consideration in advance of the conference then present their works to their peers in at the conference in Turkey. There will be five students presenting on each panel and a moderator to conduct the question-and-answer session after each student presents.
  • Model United Nations (MUN). In Model UN, students represent UN member states and debate, prepare draft resolutions, and conduct negotiations to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world. Students wishing to participate in the Model UN must register for this portion of the conference separately and in advance.
