![]() The Jessup Compendium is a compilation of the results of the annual Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, including the Compromis, the Judges' Memorandum of Law and Authorities, Award Winning Memorials, and the Results of the Shearman & Sterling International Rounds. Now in its 49th year, the Jessup Competition is one of the world's premier international law events, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries. The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Representing both sides of the argument, each Jessup team is required to prepare oral and written pleadings. Thousands of law students from around the world work to craft persuasive arguments to the pressing legal questions presented by the Jessup Problem, which every year addresses timely issues of international law. The students first compete in national competitions in January and February, in hopes of earning the right to advance to the world championship Shearman & Sterling International Rounds held every spring in Washington, D.C. Each volume of the Jessup Compendium chronicles the journey of the year's Competition, from the release of the problem to the winning memorials and final results. |
