The three Final Round Judges of the 2025 White & Case International Rounds have been announced!
Joan Donoghue served as a member of the International Court of Justice from 2010 to 2024, including as its President from 2021 to 2024. She worked for many years for the United States Department of State, including as Assistant Legal Adviser for Oceans, Environment and Science, Legal Adviser, negotiation of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Principal Deputy Legal Advisor. She was a US designee to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators and works as an arbitrator based in London. She earned BAs from University of California, Santa Cruz in Russian Studies and Biology and a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.
Juan Manuel Gomez Robledo has been a member of the International Court of Justice since February 6, 2024. He served for many years in the Mexican Foreign Service, including as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations, Ambassador of Mexico to France and Monaco and Legal Counsellor of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a former member of the UN International Law Commission, including serving as Special Rapporteur on the topic “Provisional application of treaties.” He earned a Licence en Droit from the Université de Paris I (Panthéon Sorbonne), masters degrees from the Université de Paris X (Nanterre) and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and a Ph.D. from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
Georg Nolte has been a member of the International Court of Justice since February 6, 2021. Since 2008, he has been a Professor of Public Law and International Law at Humboldt University of Berlin, and has also taught at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and served as Dean and Professor of Public Law and International Law at the University of Göttingen. He is a former member of the UN International Law Commission, including serving as Special Rapporteur on the topic “Subsequent agreements and subsequent practice in relation to the interpretation of treaties.” He completed university studies in law, international relations and philosophy at the Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Geneva and earned a Doctorate from the University of Heidelberg.
