ILS’s 5th Annual Conference on Energy Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in the Middle East and Africa will take place on 10th and 11th February 2022. The event is organised in association with Herbert Smiths Freehills, and will take place in person at their London office. In the context of strengthening efforts to decarbonise the global economy, coupled with the impact of Covid-19 recovery measures and continuing security challenges, the event will examine the economic, geopolitical, technical and legal considerations driving energy disputes across the region.

Our keynote speaker for Day 1 is Lord Angus Glennie, Vice-Chair of the Scottish Arbitration Centre and Appeal Judge at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) courts. Day 2’s keynote speaker is ICC’s Regional Director for Africa, Diamana Diawara. As with all previous editions, the conference will be directed by Brandon Malone, Barrister, Arbitrator, and Chair of the Scottish Arbitration Centre.

Bringing together policy makers, government representatives, arbitration institutions, legal practitioners and academics, the conference aims to once again generate lively debate, knowledge exchange and professional connections through a 2-day programme of lectures, panel discussions and networking receptions. The conference programme, list of speakers and information on how to submit a paper will be published shortly.
