Objective:
This seminar will provide legal practitioners with an update on the case law developed by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) on freedom of religion, focusing on judgments since 2015.

Wearing of religious symbols and clothing in public, at work, in courtroom
Children’s right to education and parents’ religious convictions
Restrictions imposed on places of worship
Restrictions on religious practices which might amount to a criminal offence
Violence and hatred against a religious community
Religious persecution and the right to asylum
Conscientious objectors
Relationship between the State and religious communities
Differences in the level of protection at national, EU and ECHR level and the role of national judges
Participants will have the opportunity to visit the European Court of Human Rights. The visit will include the screening of a documentary followed by a presentation on the ECtHR’s role and work.
