MUNTR is the oldest and the most prestigious Model United Nations Conference in Turkey. It will celebrate its sixteenth annual session this year. Traditionally, MUNTR has had different court or law-related simulations along with a variety of United Nations bodies to cover urgent problems and international matters in the legal, social, political, and economic realms. Participants are expected to assess the global problems which intersect these areas of study.
In MUNTR 2020, one of the committees will be in the form of an unprecedented meeting between two respected bodies. UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate- UN Office of Legal Affairs meeting on the expert level will focus on two crucial issues: 1) Promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, and 2) Countering and preventing legal and illegal financing of terrorist groups to combat international terrorism. These agenda items will be debated upon and analyzed in order to bring forward solutions and new instrumental approaches. More law students are expected to participate in the meeting to come up with legal assessments regarding the issue to improve the existing implementations in terms of terrorism.
MUNTR 2020 is recognized by the UN Office, Turkey and sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
