Now in its 49th year, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries. The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Representing both sides of the argument, each Jessup team is required to prepare oral and written pleadings.
Thousands of law students from around the world will work all year long on this season's Jessup Problem, which addresses important and timely issues concerning terrorism and human rights. The students first compete in national competitions (mostly held in January-March) in hopes of earning the right to advance to the world championship Shearman & Sterling International Rounds held every spring in Washington, D.C.

The Shearman & Sterling International Rounds took place April 6-12, 2008 in Washington, D.C. Overall, there were 110 teams in attendance from 77 different countries: 97 competing teams, 11 exhibition teams, and 2 observing teams. Click here for a list of participating teams.
